This day in history: May 31, 1862 - The Battle of Seven Pines unfolded near Richmond, Virginia. Confederate General Joseph E. Johnston's army launched a fierce attack on Union General George McClellan's troops, coming close to victory. However, Johnston was severely wounded during the battle. In his place, General Robert E.
