Aug. 2, 1971: At the end of the last Apollo 15 moon walk, Commander David Scott held out a geologic hammer and a feather and dropped them. They fall at the same time because they were essentially in vacuum and there was no air resistance, as Galileo had concluded hundreds of years before. This was the authentic proof of the fact discovered by Galileo that acceleration is independent from the mass of the falling object . #nasa #astronomy #astrophotography #space #history science universe moon spa

Apollo 15 astronaut David Scott prepares the Lunar Roving Vehicle, securing the final components before driving it across the Moon toward Station 4. This restored 16 mm footage, originally filmed at 6 fps and interpolated to 60 fps, shows the rover in motion with synchronized audio. In 1971, during the Apollo 15 mission, astronaut David Scott discovered one of the most important Moon samples ever found — the Genesis Rock. This ancient rock is believed to be over 4 billion years old, formed when the Moon was still young and molten. Scientists say it came from the Moon’s original crust, giving us rare clues about how the Moon — and even Earth — first formed. When it was picked up, the excitement was real: “I think we just found what we came for.” A small rock… but a huge disc

In 1971, astronaut David Scott conducted Galileo's famous hammer/feather drop experiment on the moon, during the Apollo 15 mission. Galileo had concluded that all objects, regardless of mass, fall at the same speed -- however, the resistance caused by the air (as in the case of the feather in Earth's atmosphere) can cause the feather to drop slower. Well, on the moon there is no atmosphere (a vacuum), so the objects should drop at the same speed. Follow us: @astro.voyagers 🛸 . •. 🌎 ° .• 🌓 • .

On July 31, 1971, Apollo 15 astronauts drove on the moon for the first time. David Scott, the commander of Apollo 15, and James Irwin, the lunar module pilot explored the moon for three days by driving around in the lunar roving vehicle. This moon buggy was folded up and stowed inside the lunar module and deployed after landing. Unpacked, it measured about 10 feet long, 7 feet wide and 45 inches high. It could travel up to 8.6 miles per hour and allowed the astronauts to venture farther from the

During the final Apollo 15 moonwalk in 1971, astronaut David Scott proved Galileo's 400+ year old theories on gravity, by dropping two objects of different masses and showing that they fall at the same rate with no air resistance.

Apollo 15 (1971), astronaut David Scott drops a feather and a hammer at the same time on the lunar surface… and guess what? 👉 They hit the ground together. Why? Because the Moon has almost no atmosphere, so there’s no air resistance to slow the feather down. This simple experiment proved a powerful truth of physics: in a vacuum, all objects fall at the same speed, no matter their weight. Real science. On another world. By humans. 🚀 🎥 Video: Apollo 15 Hammer and Feather Drop 👨🚀 Astronaut: D

During Apollo 15, astronaut David Scott dropped a feather and a hammer on the lunar surface to show that without meaningful air resistance, both fall at the same rate. It became one of the clearest demonstrations of gravity ever filmed on another world. And now, with Artemis II targeted for tomorrow, NASA is preparing to send astronauts back around the Moon in the next chapter of lunar exploration.

@thephysicslabs on Instagram: "In 1971, Apollo 15 astronaut David Scott famously demonstrated that two objects of different masses and shapes - a hammer and a feather - fall at the same rate in the vacuum of the Moon, reaching the surface at the same time. This experiment, broadcast live, validated Galileo's principle that in the absence of air resistance, all objects accelerate at the same rate due to gravity. Gravity accelerates all objects equally, regardless of their mass or shape. The force
