This little male spectacled flying fox pup was spotted by one of our rescuers with his wings drooping down and flies buzzing all around him. These are serious signs that a pup is very compromised and needs to be rescued immediately. Once our rescuer got him down she could see that he was in extremely poor condition, dehydrated, emaciated and covered in fly eggs. This very handsome adult male spectacled flying fox is Theo. While out foraging for the night, Theo has had a run in with some powerlines and sustained an electrocution. Even if our bats don’t touch the powerlines, the electricity can arc in wet weather. Feeling very sore, Theo camped out in someone’s backyard until he was noticed and we were called in to rescue. We are so excited to announce that Keith, a spectacled flying fox we have been rehabbing from barbed wire injuries, has been released! Keith was very frightened when rescued but quickly settled with ample juice and smoothie bribes. He’s spent the past few weeks in one of our flight aviaries, doing the last of his healing before being ready for release. Keith was released straight into a local colony, giving him time to settle and get his bearings before needing to fly off to forage for the night
