Today, our volunteers at RNLI Jersey are celebrating 50 years of St Catherine's lifeboat station. A station was first opened at St Catherine's on 7 October 1969 on the north side of Gibraltar Rock, where a small D Class lifeboat was stationed in an old German war tunnel. In the following 50 years, the station has moved twice and seen five different lifeboats permanently deployed, and the volunteers there have saved numerous lives. They had experienced equipment failure and were in the water clinging to their kayak. After conducting a boat swap and with building seas, it was rather a tricky task getting the St Catherine’s Atlantic 85 back into the trailer. With great skills by the helm and the tractor driver they managed to safely recover the boat. The boat, tractor driver and head launcher are all in communication via VHF to ensure things go smoothly, albeit a bit wet for the tractor driver 😅 | RNLI Jersey
