This is Munch the Beaver. Way back in May of 2024, an orphaned North American Beaver was found hiding between some rocks. We waited a long time to see if mom would return, but it became obvious that that this little beaver was all alone. We recently released Munch, and tomorrow we are going to post a video of Munch in her new home, but first we thought this video explaining why this little miss is called Munch was necessary. :) It can take up to 18 months to rehabilitate a baby beaver. The beavers woke up Monday evening to find the river had turned to ice while they slept. There was only a thin strip of open water in front of the lodge, and it was getting smaller by the minute. The last two winters this family lived on the West Bank of the river, which usually doesn’t freeze over. Because our water levels are so low this year, the beavers are wintering on the East bank, which is deeper, but completely freezes over. It may be a long time before I see them again. ❤️🦫❤️ | Mike’s

A very interesting beaver scene from last week. One beaver marked its scent on a rock, then a second beaver walked out of the river and marked its scent on the grass only about 10 feet from where I was watching on the riverbank.
