I bought a bag of Mapei's Avalanche white grout, hoping for a true white grout. In the tile store, the Avalanche plastic grout sample stick was the one that seemed to look the best with my ivory subway tiles (they have a golden or sandy-colored undertone--not the usual bone or bisque color.)

If you're doing white marble you need to seal it top bottom and sides before install because like epoxy, this stuff leeches into your stone and causes a dark halo effect around your stone edges, epoxy and urethane grouts will suck into those pores and dry like that.

Mapei avalanche is whiter than Mapei white. You really need to see the grout stick against the tile because it can go a little yellow or a little gray/dull.

I have off white subway tile backsplash which perfectly matched Mapei white grout and caulk for the joint between counters and backsplash. Everything was beautiful for a month.

We used the sanded grout with our White Thassos mosaic assent tile. If you want the most super-duper white, Mapei's Avalanche sample stick looked the whitest compared to all the rest.
