The 4-2 win completed a sweep of the Padres; extended the Rays’ winning streak to five, their longest in nearly a year; and got them back to .500 for the first time since mid-April. Zack Littell, after deserving better in several outings on the way to an 0-5 start, earned his first win, allowing the two runs over five innings.

Dylan Cease made the start for the Padres and surrendered a solo home run to Brandon Lowe in the top of the third inning. Xander Bogaerts made his second error in as many games allowing Junior Caminero to reach base. With two outs in the inning, Christopher Morel doubled to center field, which allowed Caminero to score to give Tampa Bay a 2-0 lead.

Shane Baz pitched seven strong innings and Yandy Díaz hit a sacrifice fly for the Tampa Bay Rays, who beat San Diego 1-0 to hand the Padres their fifth loss in seven games.
