The Toronto Blue Jays had to take a gamble. USA Today's Bob Nightengale calls it the "biggest gamble" made at the MLB trade deadline. The move that qualified: Toronto's trade for Cleveland's Shane Bieber.

At the buzzer, Toronto made arguably their best deal, acquiring relief pitcher Louie Varland and first baseman Ty France from the Minnesota Twins in exchange for outfielder Alan Roden and left-handed pitcher prospect Kendry Rojas.

The Jays got what they needed but also deserve credit for actually being willing to trade some real prospects at the deadline.
