A Kennebec County superior court judge issued an order saying the Maine Commission on Public Defense Services must provide continuous legal representation to those charged with a crime and present a plan to the court on how it will do so by April 3.

David MacKenzie, 53, appeared in Penobscot County Superior Court on Tuesday after he allegedly violated his bail again. He was arrested Saturday and was granted a $1,000 bail by Judge Bruce Mallonee. MacKenzie has posted the bail and has been released from the Penobscot County Jail, according to the online log.

The senate now has 40 days to vote on Julia Lipez's nomination to the Maine Supreme Judicial Court and Darcie McElwee's to the Superior Court.
