Some of the 75,000 U.S. federal workers who the Office of Personnel Management says accepted a resignation buyout offer were ready to retire anyway. Others were motivated by looming federal workforce cuts or an order to return to the office.

Nearly 80,000 federal workers have taken Donald Trump's buyout offer, and while that number represents a small percentage of the more than 3 million workers on the federal payroll, the buyout could impact New Jersey's federal workforce.
