GLADE SPRING, Va. — Artist Nancy Johnson uses her colorful, folk-art paintings to share her experiences growing up African-American in Southwest Virginia in the 1930s.
Her abstract style of painting has been labeled by others as African folk art. “The concepts behind my work go so much deeper than being just a pretty picture,” she explained.
