Millions of Americans are expected to hit the road, taking advantage of the Fourth of July falling on a Friday this year.

This year marks the 249th year of America's independence, and this time around, the Fourth of July falls on a Friday, giving many a true, three-day weekend to celebrate. Many businesses, government offices, and financial markets will be closed as Americans take the day off and mark the summer season with barbecues and outdoor activities.

Costco is one of the few national retailers that won't be open on the Fourth of July. It will close all stores on July 4. Trader Joe's stores will open on July 4 but all stores will close at 5 p.m.

"I have seen dogs go right through a screen in a window," said Bernice Gero, the Co-Director of Missing Dogs Massachusetts. 74 missing dogs last year between June 30 and July 11.
