Israel released 90 Palestinian prisoners on Monday after Hamas handed over three Israeli hostages, completing the first exchange of a truce aimed at pausing 15 months of conflict in Gaza. The move was hailed by the United Nations, which is urging more much-needed aid to the devastated enclave.

• Eight hostages – three Israeli and five Thai – are set to be released from Gaza on Thursday. The three Israelis are Arbel Yehoud, Agam Berger and Gadi Moses, according to the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office. The names of the five Thai citizens have not been made public.

Around 220 aid trucks were sent from Egypt towards the Gaza Strip on Monday, the second day of the ceasefire between Israel and the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas. An Egyptian Red Crescent official in North Sinai said the trucks include 10 carrying fuel.

Hamas freed three Israelis and five Thai nationals in exchange for more than 100 Palestinians. But the militant group struggled to control crowds, prompting a delay.

The hospital that received the first three Israeli hostages released a week ago by Hamas from the Gaza Strip said the women were all discharged on Sunday.

Four female soldiers are set to be released by Hamas on Saturday as part of the the ceasefire and hostage release deal, the militant group said.
