Australia's difficult build-up to the Champions Trophy is hit further by a 49-run defeat by Sri Lanka in Colombo.

Australia, holders of the Cricket World Cup after their 2023 victory in India, lost their last seven wickets for 28 runs on Friday to be bowled out for 107 runs in the 25th over in Colombo. It was the Australians’ last match before their Champions Trophy opener against England in Pakistan on February 22.

Sri Lanka have completed their first whitewash of Australia in a one-day series with a record-breaking 174-run victory at Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

Josh Inglis smashed his maiden ODI ton off 77 balls to revive Australia's run chase and take them home. He also leveled with Virender Sehwag for the fastest Champions Trophy hundred. Sehwag's 77-ball ton (126 off 104 balls) also came against England - in Colombo in 2002.

Kusal Mendis scored his fifth century and Dunith Wellalage took four wickets as Sri Lanka beat Australia by 174 runs in the second one-day international and swept the two-match series 2-0.

Australia will look to level things up as they lock horns against Sri Lanka in the second and final ODI match at the R Premadasa Stadium on Friday, February 14. This a 2-match ODI series, with Steve Smith leading the Aussies in place of the injured Pat Cummins.
