Gov. Gavin Newsom and Texas Democrats jointly promoted California’s plan to redraw congressional lines and offset a redistricting scheme in Texas.

Texas Republicans are planning to escalate their efforts to end a weeklong holdout by Democrats if they don't return to the state Capitol to face a vote on new congressional voting maps.

Texas GOP Gov. Greg Abbott and House Speaker Dustin Burrows said Tuesday that the chamber will conclude its first special session on Friday if the state Democrats don't return before then.
