Uganda has discharged eight people after they recovered from Ebola although at least 265 contacts remain under quarantine, its health minister said. The East African country declared an outbreak of the highly infectious and often fatal haemorrhagic disease late last month after one man - a male nurse at the Mulago National Referral Hospital in Kampala - died.

The lone fatality from the latest outbreak was a male nurse who died the day before the outbreak was declared in Kampala on Jan. 30

Uganda discharged on Tuesday the last eight patients who recovered from Ebola, health authorities reported, and there were no other positive cases in the outbreak declared last month. World Health Organization described the recoveries as a milestone that “reflects the power of Uganda’s quick and coordinated response.

Contact monitoring is still under way for 216 people who are at quarantine facilities located throughout the country.
