All-Star starter Tarik Skubal won his first game since June and Javier Baez homered, doubled and knocked in four runs as the Detroit Tigers beat the Philadelphia Phillies and ace Zack Wheeler 7-5.

With Tarik Skubal warming up just a few feet above Zack Wheeler, fans milling around the outfield bullpens were treated to a behind-the-scenes look at two Cy Young candidates. Saturday’s Phillies-Tigers game was also a showdown between two of the top pitchers in the National League and American League.

The Philadelphia Phillies get their lockdown closer for the bullpen in a trade with the Minnesota Twins for reliever Jhoan Duran.

Phillies fans were looking forward to seeing both when the team’s new closer, Jhoan Duran, would come on to pitch for the first time after being acquired in a July 30 trade with the Twins. The Phillies and American League Central-leading Detroit opened a three-game series at Citizens Bank Park Aug.
