The wildly unpopular “Big Beautiful” reconciliation package has encountered possibly existential challenges, though Senate Republicans still hope to bring it to the floor this weekend. Senate Republicans rewrote key provisions of it after Parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough rejected many of Republicans’ proposed Medicaid cuts,

There’s 35 million people under the poverty line inside the United States, and there’s 70 million people that are signed up for Medicaid,” Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.)

“We have been successful in removing parts of this bill that hurt families and workers, but the process is not over, and Democrats are continuing to make the case against every provision in this Big, Beautiful Betrayal of a bill that violates Senate rules,” Ranking Member Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) said in a statement.
