A spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be decided on Monday in Leipzig, as Germany and Slovakia face off in their final matches in UEFA qualification.
The draw for UEFA's World Cup qualification playoffs is set for Thursday, Nov. 20 at 7 a.m. ET. UEFA's World Cup qualifying playoffs will be contested on March 26 (semifinals) and March 31 (finals). Twelve European countries have already clinched a spot in the 2026 World Cup:
The final World Cup participants won't be determined until March of 2026, following the draw for the World Cup groups. A playoff will take place in North America in March, including one team each from the following regions: AFC, CAF, CONMEBOL, OFC, alongside two from Concacaf to determine the final two places in the World Cup.
2026 marks the first World Cup since FIFA expanded the tournament to 48 teams, adding 16 additional slots from the 2022 edition. As a result, there is even more space for teams from across the six confederations to secure their spot as the international tournament heads to North America.
Germany looks to take one step closer to another FIFA World Cup appearance, as the nation gets set for a matchup with lowly Luxembourg on Friday.
