President Trump says he will use a detention center at Guantánamo Bay to hold tens of thousands of criminal immigrants in the U.S. illegally.

President Donald Trump, who made the deportation of immigrants a central part of his campaign and presidency, said Wednesday that the U.S. will use a detention center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, to hold tens of thousands of the “worst criminal aliens.”

Donald Trump signed the Laken Riley Act on Wednesday as the president approves a series of initiatives meant to tackle his goal of curbing illegal immigration.

The legislation will require immigration officers to detain immigrants who are in the U.S. illegally when they're accused of lower-level crimes like shoplifting.
