A new tropical storm could form in the Atlantic this week and continue the 2025 hurricane season’s backloaded burst of tropical activity. Even though fewer storms tend to form now, in the late-season, history has shown how devastating they can be, particularly since development areas shift closer to land.
According to the National Hurricane Center's 2 a.m. Thursday advisory, Tropical Storm Jerry is in the Atlantic Ocean, 560 miles east-southeast of the Northern Leeward Islands. Packing maximum sustained winds of 65 mph, it is tracking to the west-northwest at 21 mph.
At 5 a.m. Monday, the National Hurricane Center issued an advisory stating that Tropical Storm Imelda is in the Atlantic Ocean, 60 miles south of Great Abaco Island and 295 miles southeast of Cape Canaveral Florida. It is moving to the north at 8 mph, with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph.

As of 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28, Tropical Storm Imelda was located about 55 miles south-southwest of the northwest Bahamas and about 335 miles southeast of Cape Canaveral in Florida. Maximum sustained winds had reached 40 mph, and the storm was moving north at 9 mph.
However, there remains a possibility that the storm could still move inland. Either way, the the state could still see extensive rain even through the end of the upcoming workweek, as well as gusty winds. The greatest risk of flooding will be on the coast and the eastern half of the state.
