An independent animal hospital has said winter storms and rising sea levels "can be almost disastrous" for grey seal pups.

Marine Mammal Stranding Center says the seal was admitted to the hospital on Feb. 19 after it was found consuming beach on the sand in Middletown.

The exposure to humans would likely prevent the pup from reuniting with its mother, according to rescue services.
