A trio of wildfires were burning in western North Carolina this week, covering hundreds of acres in Polk County. County officials said the three fires have been named the Black Cove, Deep Woods and Fish Hook wildfires.

The North Carolina Forest Service and local fire crews are dealing with an immense amount of fuel, like leaves and trees, on the ground following Helene.

Three separate wildfires have burned more than 1,100 acres in Polk County as of Friday morning. That fire began in the area of Green River Cove Road, according to Polk County Emergency Management. The Black Cove Fire has burned 583 acres and is 0% contained,
