Pope Francis had a "restful night" in a hospital and his bronchitis was improve, the Vatican said Saturday. Matteo Bruni, the director of the Holy See Press Office told journalists Francis, 88, "slept well" after being admitted to Rome's Agostino Gemelli Hospital on Friday.

It is unclear how long Pope Francis will stay in hospital, according to a Holy See spokesperson, after he was admitted on Friday with a respiratory tract infection.

Pope Francis, who is receiving treatment in hospital for a respiratory tract infection, will not appear in public on Sunday to lead his usual weekly prayer with pilgrims, the Vatican said.
