Why Canadian hockey fans have been booing the U.S. national anthem
Fans are booing the U.S. national anthem. It happened earlier in NHL games and continued on to the huge USA-Canada matchup at the NHL 4 Nations Face-Off. When the “Star-Spangled Banner” was performed, the fans at Montreal’s Bell Centre booed … and they did so loudly for the entirety of the anthem.

As soon as the singer, Royal Canadian Air Force member David Grenon, began belting, “Oh, say, can you see,” the crowd at the Bell Centre in Montreal let out an aggressive and booming chorus of boos that nearly drowned out the anthem entirely.
Of course, what sparked all this was partly the American national anthem being booed passionately, but it was mainly the three fights after nine seconds that sent the Bell Centre into a frenzy.
