West Virginia National Guard troops are now being sent to Washington, DC, in an escalation of President Donald Trump’s efforts to federally take over law enforcement in the city.

According to a release from Morrisey's press office, the West Virginia National Guard will deploy troops to the nation's capital "as a show of commitment to public safety and regional cooperation."

West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey is deploying 300 to 400 National Guard troops to the District of Columbia at the request of the Trump administration, the governor's office said in a statement on Saturday.
