Seventeen years after their first head-to-head matchup, Clayton Kershaw and Max Scherzer met for perhaps the last time in their storied careers on Friday night when the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 5-1.

Los Angeles Dodgers left-hander Clayton Kershaw took on fellow future Hall of Famer Max Scherzer of the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday night and earned the victory with help from Mookie Betts. Betts hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the fifth inning and drove in another run in the three-run seventh to help the host Dodgers to a 5-1 victory in the opener of the three-game series.

Clayton Kershaw and Max Scherzer will forever be tied together. Along with Justin Verlander, there's an easy and obvious elite tier for the generation of pitchers whose prime ran through the 2010s. Scherzer and Kershaw both debuted in 2008.
